“I got this book as my daughter was showing a strong interest in getting involved in ‘the arts’ and as she is now 9 years old its a good time, Some of the things it is very informative about are..The growth – cognitive, emotional, social – which children and teens can experience through being involved in Theatre Arts activities as well as insights into the ways Theatre Arts activities can be of special benefit to kids with learning differences and unique learning styles.
I felt it takes the mystery out of the creative processes that go in to producing a play for young actors, infact we have used it at home to create mini plays which have been quite well constructed using these techniques.
The biggest negative of the book is that it speaks to the help that can be found in theatre arts activities for certain disabilities – Aspergers, non-verbal learning disorders, literacy issues, etc. in an anecdotal fashion, but does not offer any scientific data to support what can be accomplished.
All in all I found it very useful for our family. “
