New Youth and Childrens Theatre Book
Well folks, its finally done! My new book,
“No Small Parts; Inspiring Character Development, Creativity, and Community Through Youth Theatre”
is now available for purchase! Here are some Amazon.com reviews about my book;
“I got this book as my daughter was showing a strong interest in getting involved in ‘the arts’ and as she is now 9 years old its a good time, Some of the things it is very informative about are..The growth – cognitive, emotional, social – which children and teens can experience through being involved in Theatre Arts activities as well as insights into the ways Theatre Arts activities can be of special benefit to kids with learning differences and unique learning styles.
I felt it takes the mystery out of the creative processes that go in to producing a play for young actors, infact we have used it at home to create mini plays which have been quite well constructed using these techniques.
The biggest negative of the book is that it speaks to the help that can be found in theatre arts activities for certain disabilities – Aspergers, non-verbal learning disorders, literacy issues, etc. in an anecdotal fashion, but does not offer any scientific data to support what can be accomplished.
All in all I found it very useful for our family. “
From Troy Bonar:
“I grew up in theater and I know the power of interaction through theater activities. This book helps people harness that power to help special needs children. My nephew is on the Autism spectrum and through the group interaction available in the theater he would flourish! This is a great resource for teachers, directors, volunteers, and program coordinators. Parents who are looking for another tool should read this and refer local theater enthusiasts to participate. What a wonderful book full of great information. “
From Read A Review “Book, Movie, and Product Reviews”:
“This is a very down-to-earth, friendly and eye-opening book about youth theater. I highly recommend this book to every parent, especially those who home school their children or have special needs children.
No Small Parts offers great information on performing arts for kids as a way to broaden their horizons and help with socialization. I know when I was home schooling my girls it was difficult to always come up with ways to get them out of the house and interact with other kids. There are the typical field trips and so forth, but it never occurred to me to look into youth theater. When I have the opportunity to home school my grand kids I’ll definitely use Susan Scaccia’s book! “
